Jacqueline Hogan, PhD

*** HOW CAN I HELP? As a scientist-practitioner, I blend current research with clinical practice to provide personalized care. I’m here to collaborate with you in creating the life you want. *** PERSONALIZED THERAPY I work with adults across the lifespan, and I specialize in creating individualized treatment plans for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, ADHD, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, intellectual and creative giftedness, relationships, life transitions, peri/menopause, lifestyle changes, healthy aging, and complex cases. I have worked extensively with multidisciplinary teams and understand the intersection of medical and mental health issues. I also have expertise in working with older adults and am passionate about supporting age-related concerns and brain health. *** ADULT ADHD ASSESSMENTS As both a clinician and someone who lives with ADHD, I get it and I see you. I wasn’t diagnosed until my 40s and I understand the challenges of untreated ADHD. I use a comprehensive, evidence-based, multi-method assessment process that includes: a clinical interview, developmental history, scientifically validated assessment measures, input from someone close to you, and a medical review to identify conditions that might mimic or contribute to ADHD symptoms. My goal is for your ADHD evaluation to be a positive experience. I typically complete the evaluation in 3–4 sessions and strive to not only provide clarity about your symptoms but also to offer actionable recommendations to help you thrive the way you want to. *** OLDER ADULTS I was co-raised by my grandparents, an experience that shaped my deep respect for older adults and enriched my life with multigenerational connections. This foundation, combined with my professional experiences and travels, inspired me to pursue advanced training in geropsychology—especially given the critical shortage of geriatric specialists across disciplines. In therapy with older adults, I begin and end with respect. I may not have walked in your shoes, but I honor your journey and value your lived experience. My goal is to understand your perspective, support your well-being, and help you navigate the later stages of life with meaning, resilience, and dignity. I am a member of the American Psychological Association’s Society for Clinical Geropsychology (Div. 12/2) and the Gerontological Society of America, and I am actively pursuing board certification in geropsychology. I’ve also been a staunch advocate for increasing the representation of older adults in academic curricula and remain committed to combating ageism in all its forms. My research centers on the early identification of dementia and lifestyle interventions to help prevent and treat dementia. I run a medically-reviewed 10-week "Lifestyle Choices for Brain Health" group based on the latest research. *** WHAT TO EXPECT My approach is holistic, personalized, and hopefully involves a good laugh. Together, we will create a treatment plan that helps you overcome challenges and achieve your goals without suffering. As a very active therapist, I will roll up my sleeves to support you in your pursuit of health and self-actualization. You can ask me anything, and you can expect my responses to be nonjudgmental, kind, and transparent. I will explain how interventions work, solicit your feedback, and adapt to ensure your needs are met. *** CLINICAL EXPERIENCE Beth Israel Lahey Center for Health Aging (Geriatric outpatient) Beth Israel Lahey BayRidge Hospital (Adult psychiatric inpatient) Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School (Primary care behavioral health) VA Bedford (Geriatric outpatient, nursing home, hospice) Tewksbury State Hospital (Medically enhanced adult psychiatric inpatient) Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Baltimore, MD (Adult psychiatric inpatient) *** RESEARCH EXPERIENCE University of Massachusetts Boston (Dementia early detection, cognitive tests, and lifestyle interventions) Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (NIMH Genetics Initiative Alzheimer's Disease) Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Mood Disorders Center) Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Baltimore, MD (NIH Study on Dissociative Identity Disorder) *** PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE With 20 years of experience in higher education and non-profit sectors, including leadership roles at Harvard University’s Office of the President and Provost and the National Higher Education Recruitment Consortium, I bring a seasoned perspective that enhances my approach to therapy. *** EDUCATION PhD, Counseling Psychology, University of Massachusetts Boston MS, Mental Health Counseling, University of Massachusetts Boston MS, Philanthropy and Media, Suffolk University Sawyer School of Management BA, Psychology, Johns Hopkins University HS Diploma, Governor’s Academy *** PERSONAL I was born and raised in Lynn, MA and attended boarding school on scholarship. I’m a mother of two school-aged children, a wife, and part of a blended family. I’m passionate about art, yoga, martial arts, lifelong learning, and community. I'm an incoming member of the Human Rights Commission of Newburyport. When I’m not practicing therapy, you’ll likely find me laughing loudly, listening to historical fiction, or practicing my kata. *** COST Sessions are $225. I will soon accept Medicare. For private pay, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. *** NEXT STEPS Contact me to schedule a free consultation to explore how we can work together.
